Sidney Brown, Jr. was called home by the Lord on January 27, 2020 to join both his mother and father in Heaven. Sidney (“Junior”) was born in Ramer, Alabama on June 4, 1934 to the late Sidney Sr. & Willie Ella Brown. Sidney grew up with two brothers and six sisters in Montgomery, Alabama. Being the first born in such sizeable family he developed his very own uniqueness as he progressed through the various phases of life.
During childhood “Junior” acquired the position of being perhaps the most trustworthy of all the children in the family. Thus, Sidney Sr. & Willie Ella would not allow the other kids to do almost anything unless it was approved or sanctioned by “Junior.”
During Teen/Adolescence, Sidney Jr.’s most salient accomplishments were three-fold; securing employment as a “Bagger” with “Delchamp Grocery Store” (then a nearly all white grocery store); graduating from Montgomery Alabama’s Carver High School and getting the attention of one of Carver High’s most beautiful female students.
As an Adult, Sidney’s most outstanding accomplishments included hand in marriage to that very attractive Carver High School female, Willie Mae Williamson. From this union, he fathered three children. Secondly, he became an entrepreneur by mastering the art of tile setting, which allowed him to assist in the laying of both public and private displays throughout the country. Nevertheless, when the opportunity came for him to join the DC Transit (Metro) Company of Washington DC, Sidney accepted this position and eventually became the assigned Bus Driver to the city’s renown Georgia Avenue transit route.
Consequently, from the little fully trusted child, grocery store “Bagger”, high school graduate, husband, father, entrepreneur and City Bus Driver, Sidney developed a personality perhaps second to none. He had become a strong family provider, an individual of proven integrity with an excellent work ethic and a very fun-loving person with unsurpassed social skills. He became a dancer who would always get up to do the “Electric Slide” and bounce to the lyrics and rhythm of Chuck Brown. Oftentimes, he was the leading comedian and “life of the party.” He loved singing along with music and while in the hospital or with his friends at Holy Cross Woodmore, he made up his own song….”I Wanna Go Home”. Sidney was a Certified Tile Setter and loved working with tile to the point of perfection. The San Francisco 49’ers was his favorite sports team. Lastly, aside from going fishing with his buddies, Sidney loved “dressing down” to the point that he was often referred to as “My Fly Father” by his eldest daughter.
Sidney is survived by his loving wife, Willie Mae Brown; his children Barbara Elaine (Stafford) Brown, Gloria Denise (Stephen) Brown, Valencia Brown (David) Glover; Granddaughter Erica Glover; Grandsons Anthony Brown, Kelvin Brown, Sr. & Brandon Glover; Great Grandchildren Kelvin Brown, Jr, Kamyren Brown, Kaden Brown & Kourtney Brown; six sisters, Carrie (Horace) Leverett, Earlene (Sam) Merrill, Arlie (Bernard) O’Leary, Ann Brown, Bernice Brown & Lois Brown; two brothers, Walter Brown, Eugene (Carrie) Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, inclusive of a very special friend – Mr. Allen Lancaster.
