February 9, 1992 – September 18, 2023
Scottie was born on February 9, 1992, to proud parents Monica L. Wylie and Scott L. Smith, Sr. From the moment he entered our lives, his mother knew Scottie was special… he brought boundless joy and endless happiness. Scottie was a beacon of light, a source of inspiration, and a true blessing to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Throughout his life, Scottie was known for his inquisitive mind, intelligence, sense of humor, “smiling eyes”, loyalty, and kind spirit/ heart. Scottie loved life, he was open-minded and had questions and was always ready and up for the mental challenge. Scottie had an unwavering dedication to food, cooking and loved to eat. Scottie also loved music and enjoyed playing his saxophone, guitar; and taught himself to play the piano.
Although Scottie was born and raised in the tristate area, he was in touch with his country roots and was a country boy at heart… he enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, boating, fishing, and walks.
While in middle school, Scottie attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA and made the Dean’s list. After a brief period at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md, he moved to Florida during his freshman year and completed high school there, graduating in 2010. After graduation, he immediately enrolled at the Indian River State College. Around 2011-12, Scottie returned to Maryland, and started taking culinary classes at Prince George’s Community College, while working part-time as a customer service representative and at night at UPS in the warehouse as a package sorter. In less than a year, Scottie quickly moved up to becoming a delivery driver by studying for the written test and teaching himself how to drive a stick shift. Successfully passing those tests, he worked as a driver with an accident and incident free driving record for 8 years. After that, Scottie worked at Giant Food until his sudden passing.
Scottie was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He shared a special bond with Markélla, his sister and was a pillar of support to his family. His love and devotion knew no bounds, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Scottie’s survived by his mother and father, Monica Wylie and Scott Smith, Sr., his adorned stepfather, Markell Peterson, his sisters, Markélla Peterson, and Jonica A.
