Shortly after her retirement, she moved to Smithfield, NC. She became well known among her community and attended Oaky Grove Baptist Church. She spent most of her days assisting her mother with community activities for neighbors and church members.
She later relocated back to the DMV to reside with her son and daughters. Her days were then spent enjoying music, movies, and laughter. She took her final breath surrounded by family.
