On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, God called Mattie T. Arrington home. She was born on April 10, 1938 in McCormick, South Carolina. She was the middle daughter of Annie Mae and George Taggart, Sr. Mattie was raised and educated in Washington, DC, and in 1957, she attended and graduated from Margaret Murray Washington Vocational High School.
That same year, she married the late McKinley "Sam" Arrington on August 24, 1957. From this union, one daughter, Renee Arrington Duncan and one son, the late Kenneth Arrington were born. Through her children, she was blessed with two wonderful granddaughters, Kellie Kristina (Renee) and Courtney Tiana (Kenneth). She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Johnson Arrington.
Mattie was a devoted member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church, where she spent many years in the service of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was known for her delicious cakes and spent many hours ensuring their perfection. However, she was best known for "Arrington's Daycare", where she was licensed and took phenomenal care of generations of children within the Prince George's County area. The kids in her daycare thought of her as their "Grandmother" and she treated them as her own. Always a caregiver, she was a "Rock" to her family. She will be truly missed.
Along with her immediate family, Mattie is survived by two sisters, Carrie M. Hargrove and Ethel Elaine Thomas. Her brother, George Taggart, Jr., preceded her in death. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Catherine Arrington, Stella Arrington, Irma Hall and Maerine Taggart; two devoted god-sisters, Otelia Lyons and Jessie Robinson. Also surviving her loss is her "God-granddaughter, Keishana Ashley Wright; a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, who will miss her greatly.
