Mark Anthony Long, Jr was born on Monday, August 4, 1986, to Mark and Letitia Long in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mark, affectionately known by close family members as “Anthony”, was raised in the Capitol Hill district in Northeast D.C., and attended Maury Elementary before moving to Prince George’s County, Maryland, graduating from Friendly Senior High School. He began a professional career working for the Prince George’s County school district before transitioning into a career as a licensed truck driver. Mark held a CDL driver’s license and established a career as a truck driver managing 18-wheelers and forming a network of friends and colleagues in the DC Metropolitan area.
Throughout his life, Mark was known for his love of classic R&B soul music, playing drums, swimming, and most of all, his love for his children. Mark was a gentle, loving soul who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Mark’s vivacious personality lit up a room and everyone who knew him loved being in his presence.
Mark is survived by his loving parents Mark and Letitia Long, his siblings LaShay Boyd, Tiesha, and Trevon Jackson, and his children, Markez K. Long, Angelo D. Long, and Ja’Chey Q. Long. Mark was preceded in passing by his paternal grandmother Lillian Louse Spease, maternal grandmother BettyJean Slocum, and grandfather James Emmitt Long.
His adventurous spirit inspired those around him to embrace each moment as he would often say “Time waits for no one”. Mark had an extraordinary ability to find joy in the simplest things, teaching us all to appreciate the beauty in everyday life. Whether it was a spontaneous call on social media to share a special memory, a quick text to check on you, or offering a comforting shoulder during tough times, he made our lives richer and more meaningful.
The void left by Mark's departure is immeasurable, but the memories we shared will forever serve as a testament to the impact he had on our lives. Everyone LOVED Mark and he will forever be missed. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate and honor the beautiful life he lived and the love he generously bestowed upon us all.
In closing, Mark leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. His infectious laughter could brighten the darkest days, and his compassionate nature touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. Many people would consider Mark their best friend or brother because he established deep meaningful connections and bonds with countless acquaintances during his beautiful life. As a father, son, brother, and friend Mark Anthony Long, Jr. played an irreplaceable role in our lives, teaching us patience, and offering unconditional love and understanding. Mark will be sorely missed.
A family gathering for Mark will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home. Following the family gathering will be a memorial service at 1:30 PM.
