Joseph C. Overton III was born on December 4, 1943 in Washington, DC to the late Annie Overton and Joseph Harris. He married his soulmate, the late Mary M. Overton, on November 20, 1965. Both parents, twin brother, and his youngest son preceded him in death. He was called home to be with his Lord & Savior and wife on December 18, 2020 at Howard University Hospital.
Joseph received his education in the DC Public School system and was a proud graduate of Spingarn Highschool. He spent most of his adult career employed with the DC Public School system, retiring in 2005. During employment and even after retirement from DCPS, he worked as an independent contractor for Taxi Transportation Services. He was a dedicated member of Salem Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board and as a member of the Men’s Choir.
Joseph was a giving, loving, patient soul and was loved by anyone who met him. He had a welcoming spirit and was sure to deliver teachable moments to anyone who needed it; with love, of course. His aura was magnetic and his laughter was infectious. He was a dedicated supporter of his beloved Washington Redskins (Washington Football Team).
Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his son; Joseph C. Overton IV, his daughter Natalie Overton; three grandchildren; Jasmine C. Lucas, Keith Cooper, Keith Williams III, two great grandchildren; Jerrell L. Jackson Jr, Johan C. Boggan; a sister, Easter Rollins; and a host of great nieces, nephews, family members, and close friends.
