Born December 14, 1943, at Freedman’s Hospital in Washington D.C. The only child of Harry D. Calhoun, Sr. and Flora Butler. He attended Park View Elementary School, Banneker Junior High School, and Roosevelt Senior High School. He went on to attend Howard University where he studied architecture.
After leaving Howard University, he went on to work for the Carey Winston Company, a finance and real estate development firm, now known as TransWestern Carey Winston, where his interest in real estate development was sparked.
At the age of 29, Harry went into business for himself. He formed SYNDEREB which was an acronym for Syndication, Development and Rehabilitation (SYNDEREB). Harry was instrumental in the development and construction of numerous development projects throughout downtown Washington, DC and surrounding neighborhoods, including the Grant Park Nursing Care Facility located on Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue in Northeast. Now known as the Deanwood Rehab and Wellness Center. He also developed projects in Prince Georges County, Baltimore, MD, Roanoke, VA and Newark, NJ. Harry became ill in 2006.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 45 years, three children, Yolanda Calhoun Thigpen (Alvin Thigpen deceased), Kevin Calhoun (Dawn Calhoun deceased), Damien Calhoun (Dionne Calhoun), seven grandchildren, Tasha and Jasmine Thigpen, Danyale and Lauryn Calhoun, Christian, Cameron, and Caiden Calhoun, along with extended family members and many friends.
