Doris "Jean" Branch, alias - "Jean Green", was born in Washington's District of Columbia, June 5, 1936 to the late Emanuel Green and Dorothy L. Green. Jean's parents moved form the District of Columbia to Philadelphia when she was very young.
Jean was one of thirteen siblings, eight of whom preceded in death by, six brothers, Joe Williams, Alvin Lawson Williams, Dick Williams, Ervin Williams, Curtis Green, and Barry Green, and two sisters Bernice Williams, and Patricia Anne Burt.
Jean graduated from John Bertram High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she received countless awards and honors for her Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball skills. She was known to be a "Super Star" in her youth.
In 1958, two years after she graduated, Jean decided to join the Military. She signed up for the "United States Woman Army Corps in Fort McClellan, Alabama. Even though her job in the military was a Clerical Specialist, she continue to play sports, and was a trail blazer for women, with her remarkable skills. Jean received numerous Awards, Pendents, Certificates of Achievement's and Letters of Commendation for her craft. She served almost six years Active Duty in the Army and departed with honors in 1963.
Immediately after Jean completed her military obligation, she began her new career as a Civilian working for the Department of Defense, landing a job with the Defense Intelligence Agency as a Photo Interpreter. Later in 1969, Jean rejoined the military as a Reservist, and her last duty assignment was with a Drill Sergeant Unit at: Headquarters, United States Army Reserve, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 320th Regiment, 80th Division (Training), Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as the First Sergeant (alias "TOP").
As time rolled on, Jean decided to end her career with the Army Reserves in 1989, after twenty years of service. She received countless awards and medals during her time in the Reserves and an "Honorable Discharge" when she departed the service. She continued working for the, Defense Intelligence Agency, until she retired from Civil Service on February 26, 1996.
Jean had numerous hobbies, playing cards and other games that she enjoyed with family and friends. She loved working 1000 piece Jigsaw Puzzles, and playing Solitary on her iPad, and she was a "Sport's Junkie". Football, Mens and Women's Basketball, and television games shows were her favorites to watch. Jean was an avid reader of "James Patterson's" Mystery Novels, that she shared with her Sista Patty (deed) Annete's Sista Carol Tyler, friend Brenda Norris (deed), and Nivea. She read Sports Illustrated Magazine, and other books on American Heritage to keep her mind fresh. Jean loved her "Soap Opera's", when some of them were canceled, she watched "General Hospital" and "The Bold and the Beautiful". She also loved all types of music, especially Love Songs, Gospel and Rhythm and Blues.
Jean loved to laugh, joke, sit and chitchat. She also love to travel, as long as she could drive where she was going. Jean traveled a lot with her best friend and partner (Annete) of nearly thirty-eight years whom she shared her life with. Although Jean never had any children with two legs, she shared the four legged ones with her partner-in-crime, and together they raised four cats, all felirs was the icing on their cake. Their names were ¬Fredericka - "The Protector", Misty - "The Singer", - Cherri - "Miss Fat Lips" with the black lipstick look, Sherri - The Talker. They have all since gone to cat heaven and are dearly missed.
Love ones Jean leaves behind are - three surviving siblings, one brother Paige E. Green, two sister's Phillis C. Brantley, and Blanch (alias "Charlie") Guy, one Brother-in¬Law George Brantley, two Sisters-in-Law - Paula Green, and Mary Scott Green, her loving friend and partner - Annete Taylor. She also leaves four children that she and Annete cared for and treated as if they were their own. A young mother named Nivea N. Worthington, and her three children, one daughter - Khaliyah Mealing, and two sons ¬Zachary Worthington and Nadir Worthington who Jean adored. She leaves her extended family in Detroit, Michigan of Annete, eight siblings. Carol J. Tyler, Sandra J. Grayson, Fredericka Taylor, Milton Taylor, Keith Taylor, Michele R. Taylor-Smith, Andrae Taylor, and Mark Taylor. They all believed that the sun rose and set on their beloved friend and sister "Jean". With the two families combined, there are a huge host of Nephews and Nieces, Greats, Great-Greats, and Great-Great¬Greats, Cousins and Friends.
Doris "Jean" Branch loved the Lord and His words for us, and she applied them to her life. Now, all is well with her soul 'going home' to be with the Lord. Thank you Lord for blessing us with such a precious jewel, she was one of a kind, and loved by us all.
Rest In Peace "Jean Green" God loves you and so do I.
