Donald Leon Green

Donald Leon Green: Sunrise January 4, 1950 - Sunset June 5, 2021 was a devoted father, husband, brother, and DC Firefighter. He came from humble beginnings as he was born to his late loving parents of the former Georgia Adams and Cecil Green being youngest of 11 siblings: 5 brothers (Robert, Cecil, David, Olivio, and Clarence) and 5 sisters (June, Mary, Louise, Carolyn, and Landonia).

Growing up on Van Ness Street in DC he immediately gained structure and a grasp of financial understanding at 5 years old as he worked on his daily paper route. Setting history he broke the color barrier becoming first black child to attend Janney Elementary School. From there he ascended into sports in which he became a star athlete excelling in: Basketball, Football, and Baseball where he later gained a sports scholarship to UDC.

His discipline in sports transcended to the District of Columbia Fire Department where he served faithfully in a dual capacity of a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician for 30 years; saving many lives and improving the DC community. With a strong work ethic, he continued his service in Prince George's County as a School Bus Driver for 20 years.

His eternal love to his late wife of 22 years to the former Evon Marie Nickens multiplied 7 times over with their wonderful children and 2 grandchildren.

An avid sports fan he is team DC all the way: Redskins, Wizards, Nationals, and occasionally Capitals if nothing else is on. He'll watch the games: in solitude, with family and friends, but cherishes his sharing of sports time with his youngest son Ajani and oldest grandson Saeed.

Although Donald enjoys his solitude, he can be seen making jokes with friends, socializing with his colleagues, spending quality time with family, and listening to the Word of God in church. He placed his faith in Christ throughout his life trusting and believing Jesus brought him through every trial and tribulation life had to offer. In this he knew that Christ never left his side.

He is survived by: his seven children (Hasani, Jumaane, Shani, Rashidi, Saidah, Sagirah, Ajani), two grandsons (Saeed, Nasir), one son-in-law (Eric), two brothers (Olivio, Clarence), and two sisters (Carolyn, Landonia).

Donald Leon Green may be gone from this world but he will never be forgotten. We are blessed to have him here on this earth for 71 amazing years.
