Charlotte B. Sloane was born March 23, 1937, in Mounds, Illinois, to loving parents the late Roland and Ida Brazier. She departed this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, in Capitol Heights, Maryland.
Charlotte’s life was filled with hope, promise, and a giving heart when she moved to Toledo, Ohio, with her family in 1944. While there, she attended Libbey High School and graduated with honors in 1955. She briefly attended Maumee Valley Nursing School before discovering her true passion which was working with children and teaching. Charlotte continued her studies at the University of Toledo and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1959. Later, she would go on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Trinity University in Washington, DC.
Charlotte married Marston D. Sloane whom she met while studying at the University of Toledo, and, later, relocated to the District of Columbia. Their union was blessed with three sons whom she loved and adored. She gave her life to Christ early on and was an active member of the church. She was a devoted member of the New Birth Christian Faith Church in Forestville, MD, of which she faithfully served as “Superintendent of the Children’s Ministry” until her death.
Throughout Charlotte’s illustrious career as an Elementary School Teacher in Toledo, Ohio; District of Columbia; and Prince George’s Public Schools, she received numerous awards and accolades and was highly recognized as an outstanding educator. After her retirement, she continued to serve as a substitute teacher in the Prince George’s County School System; a favorite pastime that she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and doted on each and every one of them. Her children, grandchildren, and family loved and cherished her beyond measure. She will be greatly missed.
