Bernard Gabriel Bedon, Sr. passed away at home in Suitland, MD after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Bernard was born on December 4, 1940 in Clinton, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents Gabriel and Nettie Bedon, as well as, his older sister Vivian Bedon Whithead. He graduated from Spingarn High School in 1959, after which, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was promoted to Yeomen 3rd Class. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he began his U.S. Federal Government career as a Federal Protective Officer and later transitioned into a different role in the Federal Supply Service. He retired from the General Services Administration (GSA) in 1997 as an Inventory Management Specialist, which culminated in an illustrious career of 34 years of Federal Service.
Outside of his professional life, Bernard enjoyed fishing, substitute teaching, coin collecting and singing with that amazing voice. He also held memberships in several organizations. Most notably, Bernard was a member of the Masons’ Victory Lodge #23, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion and past president of the Fleischmann Village Civic Association.
Bernard Gabriel Bedon, Sr. is survived by his wife of 56 years Vaudi C. Bedon and their children (Son) Bernard Gabriel Bedon, Jr. and (Daughter) Sonja V. Bedon. He leaves to cherish his memory his niece Reeba L. Whitehead, aunts Elizabeth Jenkins and Daisy Barksdale, uncle Willie Jenkins, sister-in-laws Vyra McQueen, Jessie Benjamin and Bernadette Grey, brother-in-law Ignatius Henry, daughter-in-law Erika DeGidio, former son-in-law Mark Rich and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday June 25, 2022, as follows: Visitation at 9:30am, Funeral at 10:30am and Burial at 11:30 am. The Masons of Victory Lodge #23 will perform the Masonic Resolution (Part 1) during the Visitation at 10:15am and (Part 2) at the end of the Graveside Service.
