Alice had four children with her late first husband Howard Allen. Of that union, Carolyn, Amy, Marquetta and Shelby were born. As a loving and dedicated mother, she tirelessly and successfully raised her children single-handedly who spared nothing from her children. Loved and cherished by her children, they ensured she received ‘her flowers’ in life.
Alice was educated in Fluvanna County, Virginia schools through high school and went on to receive various certificates and training throughout her career. She attended Beauty School and was an accomplished beautician. She also worked in Food Service, Transportation, Banking and Retail. She even had a CDL license to drive trucks and buses.
Alice retired from the Prince George's (PG) County Department of Aging in 2001 where she drove buses of all sizes delivering meals to seniors and disabled and for the PG Court House where she transported people to and from the parking lots. Many would ask her, “How in the world can a tiny little lady like you drive these big busses?" They almost couldn't see her until they boarded the bus. She was a proud public servant.
Alice was a true Servant of God. She was a dedicated member of Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Going to church was a life-long journey for her. When she first came to Washington, DC in the 70s, she attended Paramount Baptist Church in Southeast, DC for over 20 years. She made sure her children knew the Lord and attended and supported the church as well. She not only went to church, but she always served in one capacity or another. She loved going to Sunday School and served in the Choir, Senior's Ministry, Women's Ministry and others.
Alice loved to travel. She was ready to take any trip, long or short, by land or by sea. She spent six years overseas, supporting her daughter, Carolyn and granddaughters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Lisbon, Portugal.
Alice departed this life peacefully and entered her home in heaven on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Queen's Court Assisted Living Facility in Clinton, Maryland where she had been cared for with love and affection since June 2021.
Alice is preceded in death by her five brothers, Robert, Joseph, Phillip, Russel, and Edward (affectionately known as Jimmy) and one sister, Julia. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Carolyn Smith, Amy Peters (Husband/Marlin), Marquetta Allen Jackson, and Shelby Allen (Fiancée/Darlene Singley); ten grandchildren, Teia Smith, Jacqueline Proctor(Husband/Ron), Marlin Peters, II, Melodie Jackson, Kendra Jackson, Kimberly Jackson, Ayonna Kirksey, DeAndre Hodge, Lexus Singley, Tyrone Singley; eleven great-grandchildren, Christophe Proctor, India Smith, Derrick Funderburk, Arianna Peters, Zoey Proctor, Natalia Peters, Terrance Kirksey Teje Kirksey, Lian Singley, Tya Singley Tyson Singley, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
