Addie Butts Lewis

July 15, 1929 – October 9, 2022
Obituary of Addie Butts Lewis
IN THE CARE OF

Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery

Addie Louise Lewis, affectionately known as “Snook” to her family was born on July 15, 1929, in Milledgeville, GA to the union of the late William Butts and the late Louise W. Butts.

Her education was obtained in the Baldwin County Public Schools system. She graduated from Eddy High School in 1948. She attended George Washington University in Washington, DC where she obtained her licensed practical nursing degree. She pursued her nursing career at West Paces Ferry Hospital, Atlanta, GA and Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta GA, as an Operating Room Nurse before retiring.

Realizing that one day her earthly tabernacle was sure to dissolve, she made preparation for her exodus by confessing Christ as her Savior. Addie was a faithful member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA where she served as a Deaconess and a member of the Nurses Guild before relocating to Suitland, MD.

Late Sunday evening, October 9, 2022, our beloved Addie Lewis fell asleep in the confines of Sterling Care of Bethesda Nursing Home, Bethesda, MD to await the final resurrection of those that love the Lord, after an extended illness.

Addie is survived by three children: Mercedes Reyes-Crump (Curtis) of Suitland, MD; Rosalyn Reyes of Washington, DC; and Kenneth Reyes (Robin) of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Julia Mae Ingram of Austell, GA and Lillian Foston of Decatur, GA; seven grandchildren, Nichelle Scott of Ashburn, VA, Kisha Kuykendall of Hampton, GA, Kienda Lewis of Detroit, MI, Antonio Reyes of Columbus OH, Antoine Reyes of Columbus, OH, Porsche Reyes of Columbus, OH and Mercedes Reyes of Columbus, OH; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother Louise W. Butts, her father William Butts, her husband Bunney Lewis, her son James Williams Coates II, her brother Alan M. Butts, and her sisters Elizabeth Vasser and Martha Simmons.
