Scheryl Re’nee Saulsberry was born on August 11, 1956 in San Francisco California, to Matthew and Mary Ann Saulsberry. She was the second of five children and grew up in the Haight Ashbury of San Francisco attending Dudley Stone Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High School, and Washington High School.
Scheryl received Christ at an early age while attending numerous churches with her mother. She began her career working for the United States Postal Service at the early age of 14 years old. She achieved this by altering her government application and by the age of 16 the Post Office had become her seasonal Christmas time employment.
Scheryl worked from 1970-1977 until becoming a full-time permanent employee as a clerk. She had a heart of gold and loved caring for others, this motivated her to become a Shop Stewart helping others with employee grievances.
In 1978, Scheryl met Norman Jones, after which she gave birth to her one and only daughter Guim’Mara Ec’jovan Jones (Berry). She continued working for the Post Office and caring for Guim’Mara as a single parent. Scheryl was quite diligent in making sure her daughter did not want for anything. At times she would purchase the same items in multiple colors. Scheryl was an exemplary provider.
She was also no stranger to hard work. Guim’Mara often stayed with her grandmother, aunts or uncle while Sheryl worked. On Sundays, which were her regular days off she would spend quality time with Guim’Mara taking her to Fisherman’s Wharf one of their favorite past times. Scheryl continued her career at the post office until 1996 when she decided to embark on a new career driving buses for Municipal Railway (Muni)
Scheryl loved people and driving. She meet some of the most unique individuals on a daily basis. She also established everlasting relationships by allowing the homeless to ride her bus while providing them blankets. She was always the life of the party and loved to have fun and be around her family. Her hobbies included purchasing shoes, clothing, playing bingo and going to Cache Creek with her late cousin Barbara Dunbar and last but not least spoiling her two grand-daughter’s Shere’nee and Di’Ajae.
Scheryl will be remembered as a very caring, giving and fun loving individual who had great style and loved to shop. She was proceeded in death by her mother Ms. Mary Ann Saulsberry, her brother Daryl Kirkland Saulsberry, and nephew Donte Jamal Saulsberry. Her memory will continue to be cherished by her daughter and son in-law Anthony and Guim’Mara Berry her three grand children Antwon Berry, Shere’ree and Di’Ajae Henderson of Brentwood Ca; Sister and brother in-law Richard and Mable Mayes of LaGrange Ca; Sister and brother in-law Bobbie and Denise Forks of Antioch Ca; Sister Brenda Saulsberry and nephew Christopher Cornelious of Sacramento Ca; Nieces and Nephews Gregory and Ola Law of Antioch; Richard Carrie and Richard Jr. Mayes of Las Vegas NV; Niece Karen Mayes and family of Hanford Ca; Varrell Mayes and family of LA; Corbett, Jamela and Azariyah Taylor of Fairfield Ca; Westley and Nicole Whisenton of Antioch Ca; Nephew Michole Forks of Antioch Ca; Julie Idommia and Gregory Law of Antioch Ca; Nieces Brundy, India, and Shante and nephew Donte Saulsberry of San Francisco Ca and numerous cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
