DIED: 08/18/2020 Brentwood, California
Raise a glass to Robert J Costa--- he touched so many lives with his love of family, spirited sense of humor and a gift for generosity. Dad passed in peace at the ripe age of “92”. He was the firstborn son of John and Francis Costa. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lois Costa and brother Paul Costa.
Bob will be greatly missed by his five children and their spouses; Alan and Patti, Jeff and Kym, Leslie and Pete, Carolyn and Brian, and Michelle and Tony.
He was the proud Grandfather of 13 and Great Grandfather of 1. He is also survived by 2 Nieces, Debbie & Tammy, and several other relatives from California and Hawaii.
Bob spent his Golden years with his loving partner, Joanna Heinz who filled those last years with such love, joy and laughter. They enjoyed playing bridge, movies, and traveling together. He was blessed to have had her in his life.
Robert graduated from Oakland High School in 1945. Bob served in the US Army in Occupied Japan from 1946 to 1948 then returned to California, earned his Civil Engineering Degree, and married his wife Lois. Together they ventured back to Japan to the island of Okinawa for two years where he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers to rebuild the roads. The couple took the “long way” home by traveling for six months through Hong Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Beirut, Cairo and Athens. While in Rome, they purchased a scooter and trekked through the countries of Western Europe. Throughout his life Bob continued to enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures.
Bob owned his own company for most of his professional career, Robert J. Costa and Associates, Civil Engineers. He was involved in several civic areas as well. He was a member of the Concord Planning Commission, Rotary Club Int’l, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and SIR’s , to name a few.
Other titles closer to home were: Baseball Coach / Soccer Coach / Softball Coach. In these roles he taught his children the fundamentals and the love of sports. Golf was his passion, where he competed alongside friends and business associates, and fellow competitor golfers. Too many trophies to count! The only golfer to play right handed—when putting a right to left putt—and left handed when putting left to right. His home away from home was on the golf course!!
He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, endearing personality, humble ways, love of life, and living in the moment. He was truly our SUPERMAN!!
Bob’s celebration of life will be held next year, 2021. Details to follow.
