1929 - 2023
Richard John Howell, also known as Rick or RJ, passed away on February 10, 2023, at the age of 94 in Antioch, California. Richard was born January 21, 1929 in Pokegama Township, Minnesota. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
Richard served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.
After his military service, Richard moved his family from Minnesota to California in 1955, seeking new opportunities and a better life. He worked for Dow Chemical in Pittsburg, California for 35 years. He was a committed and hardworking employee.
In his free time, Richard was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and taking walks up in the hills around the coal mines. He also spent many hours playing pool at the Antioch Senior Center, where he generously donated his time. His love for these activities brought him closer to his many friends and community members.
Richard will be dearly missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his daughter Carmen Conkel, granddaughter Maija Ellis, granddaughter Connie Morrow (Tony), great-granddaughter Courtney Morrison (Doyle), great-granddaughter Alissa Ellis, great-granddaughter Melissa Garduza (Daniel), great-granddaughter Tiffany Charter, great-great-grandsons Hayden Morrison, Hunter Morrison, and Hudson Morrison, great-great-granddaughter Elena Garduza, and brother George Howell. He was preceded in death by his wives, DeLores Howell and Catherine Howell, his father Leroy Howell, his mother Lila Howell, and eight siblings.
A ceremony to honor Richard's life will take place at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, where his cremains will be interred. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the USO and Meals on Wheels, organizations that were close to his heart.
Richard John Howell will forever be remembered for his service, dedication and love for his family, friends and community. His legacy will live on through the cherished memories he leaves behind.
