Ken Tate was born September 15, 1929 to parents Howard and Noma Tate in Hazel, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023 at St. Michaels hospital after a brief illness.
Ken celebrated 68 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Chiyoko. His 30-year Navy career brought them to many locations around the nation and world. Ken enlisted at age 18, rose quickly through the enlisted ranks, then as a ‘Mustang’ officer, retiring as Commander from the decks of the USS Missouri in Bremerton. He later joined QED Systems, a naval engineering firm, for 12 years.
Ken worked hard and played hard, too. He and Chiyoko shared a love for adventure and exploration with boating trips around Puget Sound, camping with friends and family throughout the western states, and worldwide travel including Europe, Japan, Russia, China, the Middle East, and Polynesian Islands.
Ken is survived by his wife Chiyoko, children Stanley, Jennifer (Carl Neuman), and Timothy, grandchildren Jason (Andrea), Kira, Savannah, and Cody, and great grandchildren Kira and Nalani and sisters, Loretta Richmond (Cache, OK) and Jean Lillieqvist (Pratt, KS)
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 15, at 12 PM, at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a lunch reception.
Ken’s ashes will be placed at Tahoma National Cemetery, in Kent, WA on April 25 at 1 PM. The public is welcome at the Celebration of Life and the Military Honors Graveside Service.
