Rita - I learned of Mark's passing when I toured the Humane Society today and talked about Michael's plaque.  I burst in to tears.  I only knew Mark for about 6 months.  He came by my table one morning on the ferry to ask me if I was done with my newspapers, and every day thereafter he would come by for a chat and the papers before heading back down to his van pool.  I no longer commuted as of May, and he made me want to continue my commute because he was always so engaging.  I've honestly never met a more genuine individual, he always had a smile, a kind word, and his daily visits always made my commute more enjoyable.  He spoke so lovingly of you and the boys.  I cannot imagine your depth of sorrow after losing Mark and Michael this past year.  Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Rita, I never had the honor of meeting you and your family in Japan or back here in Washington.  I was the security officer in Misawa.  Mark was hands down the best man I've worked for or with and helped me in my career to Chief Warrant Officer.  An honorable wonderful man who respected everyone and was respected and appreciated by all that knew him.

Mark was a great guy, I had the pleasure of working for him for almost two years.   There are few around of his caliber....

I am very sorry for your loss. I met Mark while commuting to Seattle from Bremerton.  He brightened each day beginning with our bus ride to the ferry, continuing on the boat to Seattle, and ending on the commute home. He was truly one of my favorite people. When he spoke of his family, his face always lit up, and he would smile. Mark recently told me about the loss of your son. I am very sorry to hear about your son's passing, and now am deeply sorry to hear about Mark's. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

 You were an incredible person, strong and caring. I met you under terrible circumstances, and yet, you comforted me in a time of grief. Your loss is felt deeply and by many, but I know Michael is happy to see you again.

God Bless you and your family Rita.  Mark and I were friends for many years, fellow LDOs and he was one of the finest men I've ever known.  Words cannot bring you solace at this time, but you can rejoice in the impact he made on this world and those of us that knew him.

Mark, you will be missed my friend.  Your quick wit and humor always brought a smile to my face even through the roughest times.  You were one of my favorite people to be around and you will be sorely missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family through this difficult time.

Barbara has often told me what a great lady you are. When I met you at Elizabeth Ortiz's wedding and reception, I had to concur.  Even though we ply talked that day, i thought, it would be great to get to know you! Your faith and kindness were apparent. The same was true of your husband. I promise to pray, and diligently, for you. I can only imagine how incredibly difficult this has been, and will be for a while!
