George Edwin Cook was born in South Bend, Indiana to Claude and Helen (Hennion) Cook in December 1935. He married Estelle (Zoss) in June of 1957. George graduated Purdue University with a mechanical engineering degree in 1957 and got a master's degree in industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1963.
George served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1979, with his primary duty assignment being the pilot of KC-135 Strato-Tankers (refueling jets).
Once retired, George and Estelle enjoyed traveling and competing in Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) competitions, where his alias name was Slivers Hawkins, while spending the summers at their cabin in Idaho.
George is preceded in death by his parents and by his brother William (Bill) Cook. He is survived by his wife, Estelle, of 62 years, a brother, Joseph Cook, and sister, Judy Oleska, both of Port Clinton, Ohio. George's five children, Paul, Helen Maddox, Mary Haviland, James, and Melanie McCabe also survive him. He also leaves 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
His funeral mass will be on Wednesday, June 12th, at 11 am with a rosary at 10:30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Pine Rd. in Bremerton. George will be interred at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Garden City, Idaho on Tuesday, June 18th at 11 am.
