Dorothy Lee Sutton

Dorothy L. Sutton, of Bremerton, Washington, passed away on February 28, 2024 at home with her family. Dorothy was born on August 10, 1937, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to David and Mollie Frederick. On November 12, 1969, she married the love of her life, Del Sutton, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Gregory Phillips, parents David and Mollie Frederick, sisters Beverly Kalams and Phyllis Myers, and brother Melvin Frederick.

She is survived by her loving husband Del Sutton, son Shawn Phillips of Snohomish, Washington, daughter Amy (Wesley) Peper of Bremerton, Washington, and granddaughter Haley (Dylln) Rider and great-grandson Lincoln Rider of Johnstown, Colorado.

Dorothy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and was involved in many cancer and heart related organizations: American Cancer Society (ACS) Reach to Recovery volunteer, co-founder of the Harrison Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group, served on the Kitsap County ACS Board as Public Education and Volunteer Chair, ACS Daffodil Fundraiser and Relay for Life, and served on the Board of CAPRI Heart and Lung Institute. Dorothy was also a member of Olympic Vintage Auto Club.

Dorothy was employed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Western Electric, Wyoming Highway Department, Randolph Air Force Base, Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and she retired from the crane shop at SUBASE Bangor in 1992.

She loved her God, family, friends, and neighbors passionately. She enjoyed antiques, vintage cars and hot rods, collecting mannequins, reading, and singing. She was a talented author who wrote short stories, cookbooks, poetry, and her autobiography during which she cried or burst out in gales of laughter and asked Rosalind (her mannequin) if it was good enough (no answer).

The memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton, Washington, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 1:00 pm, followed by reception. Internment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
