The world lost an amazing father, grandfather and friend on March 13, 2022 when Donald Edward Craig passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family. His loving heart and twinkling smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Donald Edward Craig was born May 31, 1937 in Clay Township, Harrison County, Iowa. He was born to Edward Clemnt Craig and Cynthia Marie Fox and was the youngest of six children, being the only son. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and served as a Boatswain's Mate aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway from 1954 to 1958. After the Navy, he worked for the City of Bremerton Water Department, which also handled streets and sewer, for 25 years before retiring in 1999.
While stationed with the Navy in Bremerton, he met and fell in love with his wife June Merle Hank, who soon would become his wife. On March 21, 1958, the two married at the Justice of the Peace. June was the love of his life and they were married for 64 years joyfully, before she passed in June 2020.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Cynthia, his wife; June, and five older sisters, Lucille Olsen, Ilene Williams, Helen Fricke, and Stella Hammer.
He is survived by his three beloved daughters Lori Zinter, Tari Rich and Holli Pierce (husband Joseph); eight grandchildren, Raechelle Zinter, Brett Zinter, Joe Zinter (wife Carly), Maechelle Watson (husband Mark) Malissa Rich, Maranda Spencer (husband Chris), Alissa Radke and Jeffrey Radke (wife Melissa); and thirteen great-grandchildren that he felt blessed with and loved them all dearly.
Don loved NASCAR and most weekends were spent watching his races. He also had a deep love for classic cars and owned several over the years. In more recent years, he loved to cruise his 1939 Chevrolet Coupe and could be found at local car shows or just picking up his grandkids from school.
His greatest love was his family, and his constant companion was his little dog, Bailey. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will follow in the upcoming month.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or your local American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
