Cheryl Bates

Cheryl A. Bates, of Port Orchard, Washington passed away on December 13, 2013. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is greatly missed by her family. She was born on July 29, 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee to Gerald and Lois Stetson. She grew up in Midwest City, Oklahoma where she met her husband and life partner, David Bates. They married on December 28, 1970 and lovingly raised a family of six children together in their 43 years of marriage. Cheryl and David built their lives together as a navy family and settled in Port Orchard in 1989. Cheryl was an amazing cook, and she always made sure that everyone had more than enough to eat at her table. She loved card making and thoroughly enjoyed her card-making groups. She loved walking in the park with her dog Peanut. Above all, she loved her family. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, David; children Sheila (David) Doucette, Jason (Raquel) Bates, Franklin (Sarah) Bates, Jonathan (Florica) Bates, Stephanie (Brooks) Wuerdemann, and Heather (Niall) Robb; grandchildren Darian Reeve, Henry Bates, Sebastian Raymond and Miles Bates; siblings David Stetson, Kenneth Stetson, Susan Franklin, Robert Stetson, and extended family and friends. A memorial service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held at the Port Orchard Pavilion on December 22 from 1200-1500. Cheryl is truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
