Teresa Anne Smid

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Teresa; surrounded by her family at the Brantford General Hospital on Thursday March 3, 2016 at the age of 63. Daughter of Edward and the late Norine Ecker. Loving wife of John Smid and dear mother of Amanda (Ryan) Shantz, Melanie (Ryan) Harrison and Mark (Kathleen) Smid. Dearest grandma to Liam, Natalie and Lucas Harrison and Adalyn Smid. Sister of Margaret (Mark) Mathewson, Paul (Catherine) Ecker, John (Helen) Ecker and pre-deceased by a brother Mark Andrew Ecker. Sister-in-law to Hennie Smid, Arend Smid, Jenny Smid (Ian Ballard) and Paula (Grant) Kent. She will be remembered by her large extended family and many friends.

Teresa had a long career in nursing at the Brantford General Hospital, and was a life-long active member of St. Mary’s Parish Community. She volunteered helping with children’s literacy and was involved in the everyday lives of her children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 96 West Street, Brantford on Tuesday March 8, 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm with parish prayers at the funeral home at 8:30 pm. A Celebration of Teresa’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 133 Murray Street, Brantford on Wednesday March 9 at 11:00 am. At Teresa’s request, cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to The Strong Start Literacy Program (www.strongstart.ca‎) P.O. Box 26004, 260 St. Paul Avenue, Brantford, Ontario N3R 7X4 would be appreciated.
