Olmstead, (nee. Hoo’) Rita Marie – passed away in her 70th year on October 13th, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rita was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by her husband John (Jack) of 48 years and her children Nicole (Richard) and Christopher (Corinna). Anyone who knew Rita knows that her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She enjoyed her days spent with them reading, colouring and playing games. She always proudly boasted about her grandchildren and how much she loved them. Damian and Izabella are going to miss her presence in their lives.
Rita is predeceased by her parents Bernard & Barbara Hoo’, and there will be a great void in the hearts of her siblings George (Sheila), Larry, Jim (Mary) Michael, Mary (Chris), Rosanne (Mike), Teri and Laura and dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Rita was a teacher for Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, teaching grades 1 through 8 for 34 years. She was famous with the students for her no homework rule and was the teacher you would go to if you had a loose tooth that needed to be pulled. Rita loved all of her students and has thought of them fondly over the years.
Rita was involved in the Catholic Youth Organization where she helped run the coffee table for 11 years and for the past decade she has been passionately committed to the success of the Brant Artillery Gunners Club where she has worked along-side many friends, old and new, who will fondly remember her as they continue their services to the club.
Rita’s family would like to thank the wonderful nurses of the BGH Cancer Clinic and Dr. Lee, her home care nurses, and Hankinson House at Stedman Community Hospice for the outstanding and compassionate care that was given to Rita during her battle.
In lieu of flowers, Rita has requested that donations be made to Stedman Community Hospice or Camp Trillium.
Cremation and a private service has taken place as Rita’s wishes were not for a funeral or visitation but to celebrate her life with memories, music and laughter. Friends and family are welcome to attend the Celebration of Rita’s Life at the Gunners Club (115 Henry St., Brantford) on Saturday October 26th from 1 to 5 pm
