Maria Byj

Peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Thursday March 10, 2016 in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband Paul (2014). Loving mother of Walter (Anna), Stephen and Andy (Gabriella). Dear Baba of Larissa, Michael, Cassandra, Amanda, Nicholas and Grand Baba of Owen and Benjamin. Maria fled home as a teenager during the Second World War seeking a new home that would provide the freedom and independence that she cherished. Canada would become that new home. She was very proud of the contributions that she and her family members made to the growth and prosperity of her new homeland. Maria was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Brantford, and the Women’s League that was associated with the church.

The family will receive friends at the “Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home and Chapel” 96 West Street on Sunday March 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Prayer Service in the chapel on Monday March 14th at 1:00 pm. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
