It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of John Gemmell, on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Brantford General Hospital, at the age of 90. He was born December 15, 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of John and Mary Gemmell. Loving husband to Bertha for 58 years. Cherished father of Ian (Doris), Phil (Gillian), Martin (Mary) and Mark (Sue). Adored Grandfather to Melissa, Samantha, Billy, Tommy, Natalie, Carmen, Paul, Martina, Christopher, Barbara and Michelle. Predeceased by his sisters Doris and Anna, and brothers Stevens and James. John was an Officer in the Royal Navy during WW II. He is a retiree from Massey Ferguson. He was the founding member of the Royal Navy Club of Cambridge. Past member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M.. The family wish to thank the staff at Tranquility Place for their care. A celebration of John’s life will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011, from 11 am – Noon, at THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL. Cremation has taken place.
