Originally from Holland, Jack immigrated to Canada in 1951. He used his many talents to provide a home for his family and eventually moved to Cambridge (Preston). Jack and Tonny would spend summers with their young family camping, and enjoying the outdoors. While in the real estate profession Jack came across an opportunity and realized that he had a chance to share his love of camping with others, and this became his dream. He purchased what is now known as Hillside Lake Park. Jack and his family worked hard to fulfill his dream, and the day to day operations of Hillside were eventually passed down to the 2nd and 3rd generations of Jack`s family who continue to carry out his vision. Hillside Lake Park has become a second home to many of its campers, boasting "Come as campers, leave as friends", this summer Hillside will be celebrating their 50th anniversary, a true tribute to Jack and his dream. Jack was a very hard working, loving, and artistic man with a passion for life and a good joke or prank. Jack was a great entertainer and he provided many hours of fun for all his campers at different events throughout the summers, his annual Hillside golf tournament was known to be full of surprises for all. His honesty and values are reflected in the family community that Hillside has become. On behalf of the family, a special thank-you to all the staff, support personnel & Dr. Murray, that cared for Jack while at Tranquility Place. Also a big thank-you to CCAC and their staff through Aberdeen Health and Community Services and the Alzheimer's Society for being so instrumental in getting the additional care required as Jack's needs changed.
