Following a short battle with cancer, Denise passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 at the age of 64 years old, surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years Jim; children Kari (Stu), “Duck” aka Scott (Aimee), and Mike; grandchildren Priya, Lincoln, and Jakob; brother Rick (Barb) as well as numerous relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Helen, and her brothers, Frank and Bob.
Denise was the euchre partner we all wanted in life; she was a critical thinker whose main strategy was to be supportive no matter what cards were dealt. She demonstrated her acute understanding of risk and reward even in her teenage years, where ‘straight-As’ at Brantford Collegiate Institute were a reasonable excuse to skip school and hang out with her soon-to-be-husband Jim. That high-school romance blossomed into three children, three grandchildren, and many unexpected kittens that Denise never turned away.
While the pandemic slowed down a lot of activities, it didn’t impact Denise’s love for her family and friends. Her home and her heart remained open to those she loved. She adored being “Manga” to her grandkids, offering a loving space where parents’ rules didn’t apply. Although she missed her annual trips to Florida, she never stopped having fun with the people she loved, even if her trips were to Costco instead of the beach. Her legacy of kindness inspires us to love unconditionally and always be there for those who matter the most.
The family will receive friends at the Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home & Chapel, 96 West Street, Brantford on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 3pm – 5pm and 7pm – 9pm. A celebration of her life will be held in the Thorpe Suite on Monday, December 13 at 11am. Due to Covid-19 masks will be mandatory indoors and per the families request all those attending the visitation and service must be fully vaccinated. Burial at Oakhill Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Memories and condolences may be shared below.
