Hi Russ & Doll:

I have said my words of love & admiration at the funeral about you both and so have my beautiful wife Trina & my baby daughter Kristina and we certainly will continue our appreciation of all you did for us during the time I was privileged to be your friend and son-in-law.

There are too many wonderful experiences to share here ,but just know that I loved the two of you as my own family & I will be eternally grateful for all you have done for me and how you shared your life and knowledge with me that I might us the information as an example to lead my own life.

There are no words to express how much I will miss our fiendship and fun times together & only hope I some how was a Blessing to you as well.

Until we meet again, I remain one of your greatest admirers!

I want to thank each and every one of you for your professionalism, support, kindness, compassion, and care that you showed me and my family during this extremely difficult and sad time of my Dad's passing.  We will be forever in your debt.   I honestly don't think that any of us could have made it through these past few days without your help.  

My father's service was beautiful, touching, and every bit embodied who he was in life.  He was a quiet, kind, loving and giving man and Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home and staff went to great lengths to insure that his service was as genuine and as personal as he always was to everyone he knew or met.   The military honors service was incredible and we all were so touched by the naval officers who came to honor our Dad in such a special way.

Thank you all again and may God always shine upon you and bless you.

To the family of Russell Lamar Hancock,

May the Lord comfort you in the loss of your loved one.  I wasn't around Lamar very often, but being married to his brother, Bobby, I feel as though I knew him very well due to the wonderful memories Bobby shared with me.  I heard stories about him being a "southpaw" in the Navy.  His boxing feats are well known in the Hancock family (as well as the families of those unlucky enough to be his opponent in the ring).  One thing I remember in particular is that Lamar didn't like having the food on his plate touching.  I remember the story of Lamar punching the guy in the mess hall who dumped his food on top of each other after Lamar telling him not to do that.  Bobby would tell that story and laugh heartily.  Lamar and Dolline spent a week with us several years back, and I remember that they enjoyed biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast.  We had such a good time together that week.

Recently, I have become very close to Russell, Lamar's son, and his wife, Carol.  They are two of the finest people  I have ever known.  Russell has that witty character just like Lamar....so much fun to be around.

I know that all of Lamar's family will  miss him so very much, but you have God to lean on and He will sustain you.  I love all of you and know your memories of Lamar, like mine, are precious and priceless.

We were very small girls when you met you and your family when you moved to Tampa with your wonderful, fun and loving family.  We always enjoyed visiting with you and your family.  We always felt welcomed and had so much fun. You and Doleen were always there for your children and it showed.  We always envied them. Dad, 
I know that it has been a while since we were able to see each other, but I tried to get here as soon as I could, but I guess you could not hold on that long....It is OK, because I have a message that I have shared with Patricia, Trina, Megan and Kristina of when Patricia called me last Christmas and made sure that you were at Trina's at the time, and I made sure for some odd reason to not answer the phone so that I could have it recorded on my cell phone for me to hear you later on, and then I called right back to talk to you and wish you a Merry Christmas....I am so glad that I was able to share that message for Trina, Patricia, Megan and Kristina after I made it to Florida....They also have made it a message on their cell phones to always have your voice in their ears as you say Merrry Christmas and I Love You...The most amazing part of this message is that you don't say my name, you say no ones name and it is very important that everyone knows that actually you are speaking to all of us at the same time...I will treasure that I was able to provide something as precious as a voice from you to all of us to hear when we need to hear you, and quite honestly I have heard that message so many times, that I felt like I was there with you and can picture you talking to me....

I know that you are with mom and you are enjoying all of the sites that she has already seen herself...she waited till you got there to show you the dance floor that will be for both of you to make the music as you dance forever in mom's arms...I will close my eyes ans see you both dancing and I am happy that she took you to be with her, but I am sad that you had to go without my saying goodbye...maybe it was not meant to be that I was to say goodbye, but to remember the last time I was with you instead, I remember our talks that we would have sometimes on Elm street after mom passed away, and when you would wait for me at Target when you came to pick me up, you were the flirt and everyone of my friends said that you were very handsome and funny...I remember when you would sit on the bench in front of the snack bar and whistle at women that would walk by and blame it on the man that went the other way, you were a "TRIP", and when you would sit by the Ronald MacDonald dude at Macdonalds, and talk to him as if he was a real person, for fun, and of course when a young lady would walk by whistle and blame it on the dude beside you, you were too funny and I said I can't take you anywhere and that wasn't true, you took me everywhere, and would wait until I was either done with the doctor, or done with shopping or when I went to work, you would wait in the parking lot until they let us in the door to go to work, then you would wave and leave but you make sure that I was safely inside the store...You were AWSOME!!!!!

I want you to know that I will miss you and everyday that you are away will be harder for each and everyone of us to deal with, but we will because we know that you and mom are there in our hearts and in our minds, and for me that will be a safe place for me to close my eyes and watch my mom and dad as they dance with each other....I would have loved to be able to have a dance with my father at my next wedding, if that ever occurs in this life time, so maybe I will when I see you again in your life time with mom...I miss you and I just wish I could have told you that I love you, I know that Trina told you that, and that I was coming to Florida, but I didn't make it soon enough....Sorry Daddy...I Love You, and I miss you forever and ever..Sonja

I wish to express my heart felt sympathy to all the family of Mr. Hancock.  I only had the pleasure of meeting him on one occasion.  Through the years, I have heard so many wonderful praises about Mr.Hancock.  I know each and everyone of you will miss him terribly.  You will receive comfort knowing he is now with the Lord as one of his special angels.  He will forever rest in peace with his beloved wife and the Lord.  God's Blessings to each of you.

Daddy, how does a daughter describe her father in only a few paragraphs when she has shared a lifetime of memories?  You have always been there for me, you have been the most amazing father anyone could ever ask for and even then you always gave more of yourself.  You loved with all your heart, you never faultered or changed, each day became a new day filled with joy, laughter, love, and happiness.  I can spend the next 1,000 years and I would never be able to list all the reasons that I love you.  You have always been an inspiration to me, a guide in right and wrong, that beacon of light that always helped me know that the road I was on was one filled with our Heavenly Father's blessings.  So many memories have been made along our road, and all of them priceless.

Daddy, you and I were NEVER apart these past 9 years. I watched in awe of you as you showered our mother with an agape love like no other and I learned what that kind of true love really was when you never left her side until she went home to be with our Lord and Savior.   I guess you could say that I took your place over the past 9 years.  We have been to so many places together and we have done more things than I can count and of all of those things which I will cherish for the rest of my life, its our time together when you needed someone the most and you chose me, you trusted me, you leaned on me, you called out for me and the best part of all of that...YOU CALLED ME YOUR BEST FRIEND.  I gave you my heart when I was very young and you protected it to the very end.  You are my hero.  You believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and the way that you loved my baby girl, your grandbaby...your love for her was so incredibly special.  Kristina's Papaw...you will always and forever be the world to her.  There isn't a single thing on this Earth that she wouldn't do for you or hasn't done for you.  You two were amazing together.  I honestly don't know how she is going to survive without you Daddy, her love for you is so deep, but I will make a promise to you...I will protect her with the same depth as you loved her and still love her.  And Dad, how can you describe the father/son relationship you have always had with Ted.  You and Mom fell instantly in love with him long before we even dated and your love just grew and grew very quickly.  You treated him like your son because to you...he was your son and there is no denying that.  The bond that you two shared was immeasurable and unbreakable.  Ted told me just recently that you told him, "If it weren't for you, Trina, and Kristina loving me the way that you do, I just wouldn't want to be here."  We knew exactly what you meant and to know that you wanted for nothing, to know that you knew without a doubt that we would never walk away from you, we would never abandon you, and you would always have us.  And that is the way that you left this world...me on one side holding your hand and stoking your face, Ted on the other holding your hand, and Kristina standing in front of you so you could see your grandbaby's face comforting you with her love and assuring you that we would never leave you and we didn't.  

We love you so much Daddy and we made sure that you never doubted us for one second.  Your every need was met, your heart was full of love and joy, and your soul knew our devotion to you.  But, even though I don't want to let you go and I want to hear you say my name again, I know without a shadow of a doubt that Momma took your hand that day in the hospital because Ted, Kristina, and I saw her there.  She said, "Don't worry Russ, they will be fine...you have to come and see this place, its so beautiful."  And she reached down toward, taking your hand from mine and she walked you Home.  

Thank you Dad for loving me so much and for being the most awesome Dad and Papaw in the entire world.  There will never be another you.  I love you Daddy.

Dad, You may be gone but I will always have the memories of the good times we shared. How you and mom enjoyed the beautiful mtns when we went to the cabin in Ga. Leaving the women behind and went trout fishing in the stream. The fun we had staying up all night fishing from the houseboat, fishing from the Skyway with the boys. The times you came to watch me race. You were always there to help if I had car trouble. You wouldn't let me fix it but would let me hold your tools. I'll never forget when you went with my scout troop camping and you and the leaders sat back and laughed when yall sent us out snipe hunting. Also sitting under the trees eating fried chicken and our love for devil crabs. You will always be in my heart next to mom. This is not goodby as we will be together again someday. Dad, I will never forget how you welcomed me into the family 25 yrs ago when Russell & I were married. With the love and kindness you always showed me helped fill the void of losing my own dad. You also extended that love and kindness to my two sons Skip & Scott. Scott called you grandpa with pride. He will never forget the trip to the Gator Nat'l with you. You and Scott would tease Russell during NASCAR as yall were Elliot fans and Russell liked Earnhardt. Knowing Skip's love for motorcycles you would sit and tell him Navy stories and your adventures on your bike. They will cherrish those memories forever. Even though they were step grandsons you treated them like your own. We will miss those twinkling blue eyes and the love you had in that BIG heart for everyone. You are now with your beloved Dolline who was like a second mother to me. We will always LOVE and MISS you dad. I love you. Carol

Daddy, I miss you so much.  I am going to miss your smile and your beautiful blue eyes looking at me.  I will miss you saying to me when I would come to see you, "Hey babe".  I know that you are with Momma and that the two of you are dancing all over Heaven and looking down on us with big smiles.  I know how much you missed her and how much she needed you to be with her.
