Ruby Walker, 92, of Brandon entered into rest January 30, 2019. She was born on February 14, 1926 in Saint Mary, Jamaica, West Indies to Percival and Elizabeth Smellie. She was the third of five children, four boys and one girl.
She met Cleveland Walker in 1947 and got married in 1951 at St. Annes Catholic Church in Kingston, Jamaica. Within their union they had five children. In Kingston, she attended Central Branch School and Beauty School, where she pursued a career as a beautician in 1956 and owned her own Beauty Salon. In 1965, she migrated to the United States, lived in Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y., and relocated to Brandon, Fla. with her family in 1986. She enjoyed taking care of her children, cooking, sewing, interior decorating, music and going to church. She was a very devoted wife and mother with a genuine heart that always brought forth comforting words to anyone that she met. She brought joy into people's lives with her warm smile and always encouraged love among people. She will surely be
missed but I know she is an angel in heaven watching over us.
She is survived by husband, Cleveland Walker; daughters, Maureen Beckford, Sharon Dunbar; sons, Harvey Walker and Stuart Walker; grandchildren, Fernando Braithwaite, Raimond Braithwaite, Alex Braithwaite, Orlando Beckford, Jamila Dunbar, Shani Dunbar, Lamar Dunbar, Shelley Walker, Gregory Walker, Brittany Walker, and Courtney Walker; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by, Maxine Braithwaite, Byron Beckford, Dalphan, Moses, Euclive and Teddy Smellie, Percival and Elizabeth Smellie.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church 1203 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, Fla., interment to follow in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Fla.
