Patricia was educated in the Sacred Heart Catholic schools in Queensland, Australia. Patricia led a very interesting life. During WWII, she was a member of The Women’s National Emergency Legion- an Australian female auxiliary and training organization of the WWII era based in Brisbane. Patricia was the driver for General Robert L. Eichelberger who was the Commanding General of the 8th US Army in the Southwest Pacific.
The family has always enjoyed telling the story of the time that Patricia was scurrying around the car to open the door and salute General Eichelberger when she fell. General Eichelberger reached down to help her up, took off one of his stars, handed it to her and said, “Remember the time you fell for the General”!
During the war Patricia met a handsome American Captain named Bradt M. Cameron. On April 8, 1944 they married in Brisbane. A year later, their first son, Burch, was born. After the war, Bradt had to return to the states. A few months later Patricia and Burch sailed for the US. They settled in Birmingham, Ala. where Bradt had grown up. Several years later they had a daughter, Rhea, and then another son, Hayden.
Patricia loved her Lord and for many years taught Bible studies and shared her strong faith in so many ways. She was a member of Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church for nearly 50 years.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Dr. Burch Cameron and his wife Ellen of Columbus, Ga.; daughter, Rhea Stephenson and her husband Robert of Simpsonville, S.C.; son, Hayden Cameron and his wife Anne of Lithia, Fla. who have been her primary caregivers for the last several years during her declining health. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Scott and Anna Stephenson of San Diego, Calif., Ross and Ann Six Stephenson of Washington, D.C., Hayden Cameron Cross and her husband Sam of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Ganey Cameron Pearson and her husband Matt of Columbus, Ga.
The last six years she has poured her love on her three great-grandchildren, Cameron Cross, Avery Cross and Charlie Pearson.
Patricia leaves behind to mourn her passing, her friend and caregiver Neda DelPino, many Bible study friends, “quilting friends”, her neighbors and the loving and attentive nurses and staff at The Crossings Assisted Living Home.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held 11 a.m. on October 4, 2016 at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Valrico, Fla. with visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, per Patricia's request, a donation may be made to The Crossings Assisted Living Home, Life Path Hospice, Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, or to a charity of your choice.
