Nadene was born March 1, 1953, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, VA, to Gene and Dorothy (Marshall) Kennedy. She graduated from Princess Anne High School, Virginia Beach, VA, in 1971. In 1975, Nadene received a major in biology and minor in chemistry from Madison College. She worked at the National Science Foundation (NSF), Office of Polar Programs in Washington, DC, for almost 43 years. Nadene loved her job, especially her numerous trips to Antarctica in support of the NSF mission. In 1994, “Kennedy Ridge” in Antarctica was named in her honor.
Nadene was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her loving family: sister Michele (Fred Hauck); brother Mark (Barbara DeBellis Kennedy); two nephews: Ben Kennedy (Jessica Pentland) and Matt Kennedy (Colleen Sinnott Kennedy); a great-nephew, Sam Kennedy; a great-niece, Olive Kennedy-Pentland; and numerous cousins.
A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Antarctican Society (antarctican.org) or to the Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org), in memory of Nadene.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HillsboroMemorial.com for the Kennedy family.
