Mark Alfred Dombrosky, passed away unexpectedly at Tampa General Hospital on September 18, 2021 with his family by his side. Despite his brave efforts and his family support, he lost his battle with COVID-19 at the young age of 51.
Mark was the beloved husband of Lilianna (Aguila) Dombrosky for 21 years. She was the love of his life. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted father to his children Mark, Elaina and Nick. They were the greatest joys and blessings of his life.
He was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts on June 11,1970 to his adoring parents, Mark and Elaine Dombrosky. Growing up with his sister Christine and his brother Michael, he had the happiest of childhoods in Brockton, Massachusetts. He spent many fun filled summers, enjoying “the greatest times” on Long Lake in Bridgton, Maine. He enjoyed long sunny days of boating and watersports, and endless nights of friendship and laughter by the campfire.
Mark was a 1988 graduate of Brockton High School. He was a bright and popular student, and an outstanding athlete—a co-captain and star linebacker for the Brockton High football team. In his senior year, Brockton won the 1988 Massachusetts High School Super Bowl title. He was very proud to be a Brockton Boxer and maintained strong ties to his hometown throughout his life.
Mark went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from the University of Maine in 1992, where he was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society. He then obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall University of Law in 1995, where he served on the Student Bar Association and as President of the Environmental Law Forum. He was admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
He served as defense counsel for numerous insurance companies and was previously a founding partner of a law firm specializing in insurance defense. He began his insurance career in Brooklyn, New York, where he worked his way through the ranks of claims management and managed litigation for prominent insurers on a national level.
Most recently, he was a Partner at Smith Thompson Law in Tampa, FL. He specialized in first party insurance coverage disputes and matters involving significant personal injury. He was respected by his peers as an aggressive litigator, and was especially skilled in settling the most difficult of cases. He also appeared as a guest lecturer on numerous topics.
He was an avid Boston sports fan with a special affinity for the Boston Red Sox. During his time in Florida, he enjoyed golfing, coaching his kids’ sports teams, and riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle. He looked forward to visits from his parents and siblings where many memories were made.
In June of this year, he took to the road on his Harley and headed West from Tampa to South Dakota. He made the solo ride of a lifetime, traveling 5,667 miles through 16 states, over 17 days. He chose his route and destinations with purpose and intent. He was a talented writer and a superb storyteller, and he kept us all captivated with the details of his adventure. His happiness and joy were palpable as he made this long-held dream a reality. “I met so many awesome and friendly people along the way. A million beautiful views and a lifetime of memories. Bucket list checked - but I’m ready to go again.”
Mark was a force of nature, with a sharp mind and a loud, magnanimous spirit. In addition to his professional career, he lived a life of service and gave much of himself to many people. He will be remembered for his generosity and his kindness, his warmth and his willingness to help those who needed his friendship the most.
In addition to his wife and his children, his parents and his siblings, Mark is survived by his Uncle Gary and Aunt Patty McCarthy of Middleboro, Massachusetts, as well as many many cousins, and lifelong friends in both Florida and New England. He will be forever missed by all of us.
