Lamar Cherry Sr., 66, of Brandon, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 28, 2020. Lamar was born in Dothan, Alabama to Betty Joyce and Lee Vester Cherry on May 31, 1954. Shortly there after, his family moved to Florida. Lamar loved to play several sports over the years from little league baseball, to football in high school, several years of basketball, and bowling. He enjoyed building and racing cars since his teenage years. He coached his son Lamar Jr. several years in baseball as well as his daughter Marlene in softball. Lamar himself also played several years of softball. He owned and operated Tampa Tire Brokers for serveral years, which enabled him to sponsor several little league teams over the years. In doing this, he touched many lives and was seen as a father figure/mentor to many. Later he Co Owned National Tire Recycling. He then moved on to work for Seffner Christian Academy, then later started Cherry's Lawn and Landscaping business, which he was forced to retire from due to health reasons.
Lamar attended First Freewill Baptist Church since 1974, which he later became an Usher and life long member. Over the years Lamar was able to grow stronger in his walk with the Lord under the great preaching of Roger Duncan Sr.
Lamar is survived by the love of his life, his wife Elaine (of 49 years), his children Lamar Cherry Jr. (Rebekah) and Marlene Cherry Peek.
Lamar also opened his home and heart to Anthony Peel, Mindi Tidwell, and Raeanne Cherry, who he loved as his own. Lamar had 10 grandchildren, Taylor, Ty, Tiffany, Mya, Mylee, Myla, Bo, Logan, Jesse, Emma, and a great granddaughter Stella, who he all loved and adored. He loved spending time with them and they all brightened his day.
His brother Jimmy Cherry(Marsha); Aunt and Uncle Becky and Ronald Abney.
Brother and sisters in law, Darryl, Robert, Diane, Wanda, and Dorothy. He also had several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, along with many brothers and sisters in Christ.
A funeral service will take place at 11am on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 11605 US-92, Seffner, FL 33584; family will receive guests at 10am. William will be laid to rest at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens of Brandon.
