GRIFFITH, Dr. John E., died in Temple Terrace on February 6, 2017. He was predeceased in death by his Father, Harold Price Griffith and Mother, Dorothea Fackenthal Griffith, his brother Harold Price Griffith, JR., his wife Suzanne Hoffman Griffith and his grandson Stephen Michael Scrivener. He is survived by his daughters, Joan Griffith Clark, Anne Griffith Snyder, Mary Griffith Scrivener and their husbands Michael Allen Clark, John Walter Snyder, Gregory Clark Scrivener and grandchildren, John Mark Snyder and Jennifer Anne Snyder. John was born March 14, 1927 in Easton, Pennsylvania attending public schools in State College achieving academic success. He played varsity football and basketball for four years and his team won championships his senior year. He enlisted in the United States Navy his senior year of high school participating in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation of World War II. After the wat he enrolled in Pennsylvania State University in 1946 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, 1950, Master’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics, 1953 and a Ph.D. in Engineering, 1955. Following graduation he served on the faculties of Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina and as a chairman of a the departments for launching of the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. He received numerous awards and grants during his lifetime. He regarded his greatest awards to be married to Suzanne and be the Father of three wonderful daughters and have three outstanding grandchildren. He supported two Vietnamese refugees in 1975. Later on they became American citizens and five years later they were reunited with their families in the Tampa Bay Area and San Jose, California.
