Mr. John Lewis Goodwin III began his life’s journey December 19, 2002, born in Jamaica, NY. John gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL. He was the first son born to John Goodwin and Michelle Rosales-Goodwin of Brandon, FL.
At an early age, John’s teachers recognized his innate intelligence and zeal for learning. As an elementary school student at Cimino Elementary, John participated in the Academically Gifted Program. He maintained this status throughout his school career. His teachers remember John as a special young man who had an infectious smile. As a student, he was consistently conscientious and hardworking, but it is his friendly, cheerful, and kind spirit that they will always remember.
John was a 2021 graduate of Bloomingdale High School where he was a member of the Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Honor’s Court and earned a Seal of Biliteracy. He was also the Founder and President for the Mental Health Awareness Club, along with being the Vice President of the Computer Programming Club. He was an outstanding player of the Bloomingdales Bulls Varsity Football Team. John also enjoyed reading, playing football and video games with his brothers and friends. He was accepted into the Honor’s College at The University of South Florida to major in Biomedical Sciences. At an early age, his biggest dream was to become a medical doctor.
Most importantly, John was always a loving, loyal, and caring son. He was a positive role model to his younger brothers and nephew who often stepped in and help with homework. He was very protective of his siblings and cared for their well-being.
John gave his life to Christ at the age of thirteen years old and was a member of Rivers of Life Church Ministries.
He is survived by his parents, John and Michelle Goodwin; his sister, Jeneice Goodwin Brown (Ahmad), His brothers, Joshua, James, Joseph Goodwin; maternal grandmother June Rosales; paternal grandparents Gordon and Lindy Warner; nephew Jael Brown; aunts Georgia Dacon (Ashford) of Trinidad and Tobago; Jacqueline Goodwin-Williams (Horace) of Columbia SC; uncles Anthony Rosales, of Trinidad and Tobago; Spencer Moore (Valerie) of Brandon FL; Colin Moore (Sharon) of Newark, DE; his special friend Hayley Lizak; a host of cousins, football family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edward Rosales; paternal grandfather, John Lewis Goodwin.
