He was born on May 7, 1947 in Tampa, Florida to the late Margaret and Peter Gonzalez.
John served proudly in the United States Marines, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Thonotosassa, and Local 123 U.A. Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret Gonzalez; son, John Matthew Gonzalez; grandson, Hunter Whaley; siblings, Peter (Joy) Gonzalez Jr., Rick Gonzalez, Veronica McClellan; many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Tonya Garcia.
A visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the service at 12:00 PM, Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, Florida 33511.
The graveside service will occur Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11:30 AM, Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S. W. 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
