James was born in Mobile, Al and grow up on his parent's farm in Walnut Hill, FL. After graduating from Earnest Ward High School, James went on to serve in the US Airforce where he was stationed at Mac Dill Airforce Base in Tampa, FL. While serving he met Peggy Loraine Crosson and they wed on August 14, 1964, going on to have one son, James Earl Jones, Jr.
James proudly spent 20 years serving as president of Thonotosassa Little League became chief of the Thonotosassa Volunteer Fire Department and served as president of Thonotosassa Chamber of Commerce.
The biggest joy in his life was spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed playing ball with them, taking them to the mountains in Gatlinburg, riding go carts with them and then cheering them on at the races while they raced cars and go-carts.
James was predeceased by his wife Peggy, his parents Jesse and Annie Jewel Jones and his brother Kenneth Jones. James is survived by his son James and daughter-in-law Michelle, two grandsons Josh Oneal and Jarrett Michael Jones and brother George Jones.
