Don was born on July 26, 1951 to parents Carl and Frankie Byrd in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his spouse of 36 years, Karen (Horan) Byrd, daughters Tammy Papaw and Kandy Lebron, his sons John Wylie and Ryan Wylie, his son in-law Stuart Papaw and daughters in-law Jen Wylie and Kim Wylie. He is also survived by grandchildren Ambur Castillo, Alicia Castillo, Robert Castillo, Leeann Cebollero, Donte Lebron, Izabella Lebron, Jazzmin Lebron, Jamie Wylie, Ryan Wylie and Abigail Wylie. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and his siblings Michael and twin brother David. Don was predeceased by his two brothers, Rusty Byrd and John Byrd, and a grandson Bryan and great grandson Amir.
During Don’s military service he served in the Vietnam War era, Operation Desert Shield/Storm and numerous military deployments around the world. After he retired from the US Air Force in 1993, he served as General Manager of Tampa Pipeline for 22 years retiring in 2015. In addition to his love of family and country, Don was a proud member of the American Legion Post 138 and American Legion Riders Post 138 in Tampa, Florida, having served over 15 years in numerous elected Officer positions.
A memorial service for Don will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home at 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. Military Funeral services to follow at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Donald F. Byrd to the American Legion Post 138, 5535 West Prescott St., Tampa, FL 33616.
