Born November 22, 1936, in Tifton, Georgia to George Scott McGlamory and Tee Ollie McKinney McGlamory, Ben graduated from Moultrie Senior High School in 1954. He pursued higher education at the University of Georgia in 1955 and Auburn University in 1956, before serving his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963.
Ben built a successful career in equipment sales, working with Florida Equipment Company, Eaton Corporation, Santa Fe Equipment Company and Benjamin Equipment Company. He later managed Western Sizzlin’ Steak House in Richardson, Texas, before returning to Jacksonville, Florida. In February 1984, he began working with the Naval Supply Center at NAS Jacksonville, where he served as a purchasing agent until his retirement in December 1998.
He married his beloved wife, Martha Ann Pike McGlamory on May 23, 1987. He affectionately called her “Mart.” Following retirement, Ben and Martha moved from Jacksonville to Okeechobee, Florida, where they spent 20 wonderful years fishing and enjoying a slower pace of life. In 2022, they relocated to Sun City Center to be closer to family. Ben enjoyed music, fishing, grilling and playing cards. He was known for his big smile and gift for storytelling, bringing joy to friends and family through shared tales and memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George McGlamory. Ben is survived by his loving wife, Martha Ann Pike McGlamory; son Michael McGlamory; daughter Sheryl McGlamory Sanderford (Roy); stepdaughters Tara Berky (Bruce) and Tracy Judy (Tim); grandsons Daniel and Kevin Sanderford; great-grandson Jacob Sanderford; step-grandchildren Nicole Carter, Zach Judy, Jacqlyn Berky, Michael and Tony Berky; and step-great-grandchildren Riley, Mason and Sophie Carter.
He will be inurned in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on December 16, 2024.
