Let us pause to remember the life of Betty Jean Montgomery, aged 87, of Valrico, Florida. Betty was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on February 25, 1930, the daughter of William Floyd Dawson and Vera Elberta Donaldson. Betty and her family moved to Palm City, Florida, there she graduated from high school and married her high school sweetheart Robert George Montgomery on July 9, 1949. This loving union produced a daughter, Bonnie Jean, and a son, Robert Donald. During Robert's naval career she made homes in many different locations worldwide. They moved to Valrico, Florida in 1972 following his retirement. She was an active member of Bell Shoals Baptist Church. She served the Lord in many capacities at the church, developing many lifelong friendships. Betty went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2017. She will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her adoring husband, Robert. She is survived by her husband; her devoted children, Donald and his wife Kerry of Valdosta, Georgia and daughter, Bonnie Roberts and her husband, Ed of Madison, Indiana; her loving grandchildren, Sherri, James, Joshua, and Sean, as well as three great-grandchildren; Jeremy, Abbi, and Adien. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Vera Donaldson, two brothers, Billy and Allen, and one grandson, Caleb. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Stowers Funeral Home, 401 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, FL 33511 with the family receiving friends one hour prior. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
