Angel Luis Marrero affectionally known as "Wito" was born on January 12, 1957 in Corozal Puerto Rico to parents Daniel Marrero and Carmen Gloria Cordero. He was one of 11 children born to Carmen Gloria Cordero in the Figueroa and Marrero families.
At an early age Angel moved to The Bronx New York, where he attended public school and graduated from Gompers High School. Soon thereafter he enlisted in the US Army. During the period of 1976 to 1992 Angel was stationed in various national and international locations including Kansas, Texas, Washington DC and Germany. He served as a Power Generator Mechanic, Helicopter Mechanic and an X- Ray Technician.
During his military service Angel received a litany of Distinguished Service Awards including Army Commendation, Achievement, Good Conduct, Service Ribbon: Expert Hand Grenade, Rifle: Aircraft Crew, Mechanic: Kuwait Liberation and Overseas Service ribbons.
In the early eighties he met and married Lydia Beltran, who remained his partner and loving wife until his passing. Together they shared an affinity for fishing, camping, gardening, birdwatching, chess and coin collecting. Angel was an avid sports fan with a special love for the New York Yankees and New York Giants. While in Arizona, he caught what the local newspaper referred to as a “Monster Fish” with a simple worm that garnered him a 1st place finish. His 11-pound catfish also broke the pond's all time record!
Throughout the final two decades he and his beloved Lydia resided and worked in Brandon, Florida. Their life was filled with neighborhood engagement (serving as a volunteer at a local VFW), home improvement projects and special attention to their beloved dogs Coco, Penny & Precious.
Following a courageous three-year battle with cancer, Angel made his peaceful transition on February 24, 2020 surrounded by family and friends at the James Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was predeceased by his brothers Felix Figueroa; Dennis, Jose Luis, Victor Manuel, and Anthony Marrero.
