Richard was born in Englewood, NJ and raised in Teaneck, NJ. He graduated from Teaneck High School in 1962 and moved to Montville, NJ in 1966; he finally settled in Culver Lake in 1989. Richard worked for and later owned George Hamilton & Sons for more than 30 years. George Hamilton & Sons was a premiere builder and developer of many homes in Northern New Jersey.
Richard was a member of the Builders Assoc. of Northern New Jersey and the Home Owner Warranty Corp. for many years. He spent many summers on Lake Owassa since the age of five. He enjoyed spending time on the lake and hunting near Blackford Road. Later in life, Richard volunteered his time with the Normanoch Assoc. of Culver Lake where he served on the governing board for many years and was past-president. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with family. Richard enjoyed hunting with his son, Rick, and friends. He was also a past-member of the Bear Creek Hunting Club in the Adirondacks.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, George O. and Eleanor (Smith) Hamilton; his beloved wife, Cecille P. Hamilton in 2015; and his daughter, Michele Lee Hamilton Moorhouse in July of 2024. He is survived by his son, Rick G. Hamilton; his grandchildren, Julianna and Sam Moorhouse; his sister, Elaine McCoobery; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St, Branchville, NJ.
