Stephen was the fourth child born to Eileen (nee Kane) and Neil van de Ven in Brampton (Bramalea) Ontario. His siblings Edward (1959- 1972) Maureen and Michael were thrilled to have another brother.
Stephen was a dedicated partner to Rick Schumph for 18 years, and a loving uncle to nephews Nicholas, Joshua and Spencer. All who met Stephen loved him and were struck by his genuine kindness, sense of humour and gentle nature. He always thought of others before himself. Stephen was frequently referred to as “an angel”.
Steve worked for The Region of Peel for 38 years. He began his career in the photocopy room at the age of 16.
During his career at Peel Steve held a number of increasingly progressive roles including supervisor of operations, data centre supervisor, supervisor of Technology infrastructure, manager of IT Service Delivery, and most recently Director, IT Operations. Stephen loved his job, was adored and respected by all he worked with.
Stephen was an avid cook and loved to host family and friends for large dinner gatherings that were always highlighted with competitive card games.
Stephen will be dearly missed. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his brother Edward, his adored Grandmother Hannah and Aunty Lily.
Stephen is survived by his partner of 18 years Rick Schumph, mother Eileen van de Ven ( nee Kane), Father Cornelius (Catherine), siblings Maureen (Mary),Michael(David),sisters-in-law Sue and Carol, nephews Nicholas, Joshua and Spencer, aunts, uncles and many adored cousins.
