Mona is predeceased by John, her husband of 62 years. She is survived by daughters Laurie, Marion (Gary) and Janet, grandchildren Shelby (Adam) and Evelyn, great grandchildren Parker and Amelia and nieces, nephews, their children and extended family. Mona was a loving wife, mother, granny, with a great sense of humour and fun.
Mona immigrated to Canada in 1955 from Belfast Ireland with Nell, a friend of the Spence family. Two brave young women who wanted to forge a better life for themselves. In late 1959 she became intrigued by a young Scotsman when she heard him singing in the background while talking to her future sister-in-law on the phone. They were soon married and in the late sixties they moved their young family to Bramalea, where they resided for the rest of their days. The road between Brampton and Waterford was well worn once they had grandkids.
Mona loved attending the Ballet and the Toronto Symphony. Both Mona and John loved live theatre, going to as many shows as possible in Toronto, Niagara on the Lake and Stratford. They traveled to various parts of Canada and the United States in their retirement years enjoying restaurants and quirky stops along the way. On these journeys Mona’s favourite way to spend an afternoon, just sitting watching the sea.
There are calm waters and clear sailing now Mum. Rest in peace.
