In 1968, along with her husband Anthony, Marie bravely set to the sea, crossing the Atlantic Ocean by boat to start a new life in Canada. Along the way, Marie befriended many other Scots, whom remain among her closest friends.
Soon after her arrival in Canada, Marie was joined by her only sibling, and best friend, Anne. Thereafter, she and Anne were never far apart.
After some years of trying to expand her family, Marie finally gave birth to her two daughters, Gillian Marie in 1972, and Kirsten Fiona, in 1975.
Marie often reminded her daughters of her desire to be a Gran. Her dream came true, and she was blessed with 4 grandchildren. Charlotte Marie, Ciaran, James Anthony and Asha. They meant everything to her.
Marie passed suddenly but peacefully on October 6, with her loyal canine companion, Suzie, by her side, with the knowledge that her daughters were deeply loved and cared for by their loving spouses, John Martelli and Jamie Reid.
Loyal, compassionate, and unpretentious, Marie had the biggest beautiful eyes and the brightest smile. She could light up a room with her humour and made everyone, regardless of social status, race, religion, orientation feel at ease. She is and always will be deeply missed. Marie leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years whom she nursed and cared for over the past 15 years, following a life altering accident.
Visitation Service will be held at Andrews Community Funeral Centre, located at 8190 Dixie Road, Brampton, Ontario on Monday October 10, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00, with Funeral Service to follow. A celebration of Marie's life will follow at the Glasgow Rangers Club, located at 185 Advance Blvd, Bramalea, Ontario. For those who wish, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Society.
