It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on Tuesday November 7th, 2023 at Bethell Hospice with family by her side at 88 years of age. She is reunited with her dear husband Mr. Klaus Dieter Hinsche. Devoted mother of Christine Gard (Greg), Michael Hinsche (Lisa) and Annette Kilner (Brent), cherished grandmother of Joel (Erin), Chris (Gabrielle), Braden, Carson, Brosnan, Felicity and Hayden, proud great grandmother to Oliver and Beau.
Predeceased by her brother Arno, brother in law Reinhard and nephew Ricky. Margarete will forever be remembered by her sisters Rosemarie and Karola (Jack), sisters in law Helga and Karla (Frank), her four nephews and three nieces.
Born in Merzdorf, Germany on Christmas day in 1934 to loving parents Richard and Anna. Together with her family, Margarete faced many hardships while growing up during World War II which included multiple family separations; thankfully being reunited each time through the Red Cross. Post war, Margarete was one of a select few applicants accepted into a newly established business school where she trained to become the personal secretary to the executive of a local textile company. In 1959 Margarete married her love, Klaus, and immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. She raised her family of three with a strong sense of German culture while also embracing her new home, ultimately becoming a Canadian citizen a number years later. As her family grew up, she took pride in her lengthy career with Food City as a deli manager.
During her many happy years of retirement, she and her husband enjoyed numerous Caribbean cruises, travel throughout Canada, Europe and the U.S. An avid gardener Margarete took great pride in her outdoor gardens and caring for her many house plants. She rarely lost a game of Rummy and always welcomed playing board games with her grandsons. Margarete and her husband were passionate fans of their grandsons’ hockey, traveling wherever they needed to in order to watch their games and cheer them on. Echos of Oma yelling “shoot” would be heard from the stands regularly.
Margarete will be remembered for her strong devotion to family and friends, her kindness, empathy for others and ready smile for whomever she met. The simplest pleasures brought Margarete much joy; birds at her feeder, new flowers blooming, watching a beautiful sunset to mention just a few. While cancer plagued Margarete for over thirty years, it was her remarkable strength and resilience that carried her through to her more hopeful tomorrows. For all those who knew her, Margarete’s unwavering courage remained a shining example right to the end.
Margarete Anna Hinsche, an extraordinary woman who will be missed dearly!
Margarete’s family is grateful for the quality care Margarete received by her family physician(Dr. Merker), Princess Margaret Hospital (Dr. Bedard and Dr.Saltman), the William Osler Palliative team (Dr. Saeed), Greenway Retirement Home and the caring staff at Bethell Hospice.
A private family Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Red Cross in memory of Margarete.
