Farid S. Soliman passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 20, 2024 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He is predeceased by his loving wife Wedad (Dec 2020) and is survived by his loving family: brother Fr. Moussa Soliman (Tasoni Samia), daughter Hanan (Magdy), son Magdi, grandson Daniel (Andrea), granddaughter Sarah (Saman), his three great grandchildren, Declan, Noah and Calvin, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Farid was born in Tanta, Egypt in 1933 and earned his PhD in the Department of Agriculture at the University of Alexandria. In 1967, he emigrated to Canada with his family and worked at the National Research Council Canada in Ottawa. From there, the family moved to Saskatoon as he pursued his post doctoral work in food science at the University of Saskatchewan. During this time, he was instrumental in developing the process for extracting glucosinolates from rapeseed. The family next moved to Toronto where they lived for many years and attended St. Mark Church in Scarborough. In 1982 Farid moved with his family to Chicago to accept a research position there, where they lived for over 40 years and served in his beloved St. Mary Church, where he was embraced until the end by his loving church family, his brothers and sisters in Christ.
In late 2021 he experienced a life threating fall. With the help of his family, his church family, and by God’s grace, he survived to live and gain a third family, the caring people at Sunrise Schaumburg. There, he continued to spread the joy of Christ with all that cared for him.
Finally, two months ago, God arranged for Farid to live with his daughter and son in-law in Canada. He was able to enjoy his grand children, great grandchildren and extended Canadian family.
Farid was a man of tremendous faith who wanted all to experience the Grace of God. His good-bye message to anyone he met was always, “God bless you!”
May you rest in peace, in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There will be a private family visitation in the days prior to Farid’s departure to Chicago. The funeral will be held on TBA at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church, 3839 W Frontage Rd, Palatine, Illinois. He will be laid to rest at Randhill Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL, next to his beloved wife Wedad.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church
