Betty met her husband to be, Donald (Don) Walt Gordon, in 1944 at a dance for servicemen on the Cayuga ferry boat from Toronto Harbour to Niagara Falls. They married shortly thereafter, in advance of Don’s potential deployment to Europe for WWII. They lived in Toronto, moved shortly after to Nobel, lived in the U.S. for several years, then returned to Canada, settling in Pembroke for a short time, followed by a long stay in Bramalea (now Brampton). In her later years, she moved to the Ottawa area. Betty was an avid reader and worked at the Bramalea Public Library for many years; her highlight was reading to children each week during StoryTime. She followed closely the life of Queen Elizabeth, who was her namesake and inspiration. Many of their life milestones coincided, including their last. She loved being outdoors, was an active member of Emmanuel United Church in Brampton and was a staunch supporter of multiple charities throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her children Richard Gordon (Nahid), Judy Archdekin-Smith (Terry), Grant Gordon (Diane) and Blair Gordon (Susan), grandchildren Ed (Patty), Mike (Caroline), Adam (Katie), Steve, James and Shaun, as well as great-grandchildren Quddus, Harper, Fletcher, Zoe, Aiden, Myra, Isaac.
Visitation will take place at the Andrews Funeral Home in Brampton on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. also at Andrews Funeral Home. Burial services will follow at the Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton. The funeral service can be viewed by livestream through the link listed in the service details.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fairview Manor for their kindness and compassion during Betty’s too-short stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Ontario SPCA and Humane Society would be appreciated.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.andrewscommunityfuneralcentre.com for the Gordon family.
