Doug was one of my first friends when my family emigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1967. We quickly became thick as thieves and shared countless happy days together through high school at Kipling Collegiate. 
He always amazed me with his 'interests'. He'd gushingly describe the new antenna he'd erected at the family home on Downpatrick and describe his talks with people all over the globe on his ham radio. We were never short of photographs he took on his ubiquitous camera and developed in the dark room in his parents basement....he was so excited the day he graduated to colour processing.....pretty unique talents for a teenager. He brewed his own beer, albeit mostly undrinkable, but still a show-stopping accomplishment in grade 12. His nickname back then was 'clutch' because he drove an old car his Dad gave him....a big boat of a Chev or Pont, can't remember, but it had a 'three on the tree' gear shifter which seemed  like medieval science to the rest of us. I remember booting it up the 400 to his Granny's cottage in Innisfil with 'Band on the run' blaring on the radio and a surprisingly large stash of beer in the trunk....happy as larks.  Many happy memories of the 'Tuesday Night Club'. We met at the Skyline Men's room and somehow managed to get our picture in the school yearbook as a debating club....too funny. 
One day Doug surprised me by saying he was joining the police force. Toronto Police were paying cadets $7,500 a year, which seemed like an incredible amount at the time, so I quickly hopped on the band wagon. I very much doubt I'd have gone down that path without Doug's input. We both worked there for 30 plus years, often at different units and rarely on the same platoon, but our bond of friendship survived throughout it all.  Too many stories...…………
I was devastated to hear of his passing.  He was a kind, loyal, friendly, intelligent, nerdy, considerate friend whom I shall miss dearly to the end of my days.




I was very fortunate to know Doug and his family through working with Pat. He was a generous person and always made you smile. He will be sadly missed, all my luv to Pat and the kids.

I will always remember Cousin Doug,  he had the most infectious laugh, which would light up any room.

Well...Arisa stole everything I was going to say. Doug was the kind of man that instantly made you feel happy. Even in this sad time, just thinking of him makes me smile. I will never forget his smile and his warmth. He was such a good man and raised such a beautiful family. I'm so sorry that he's gone.  

Doug, or "Laura's Dad", as I'll always think of you: you were so kind and had such an infectious smile. You laughed so readily and heartily. I always admired your happiness, calmness, and obvious enjoyment of life. You made me feel so welcome, as though I was part of the family. You were an amazing role model and I'm so glad you were in my life.

Our deepest condolences on Doug’s passing.  One of the best and most giving. He will be in our prayers. 

Doug, you were an officer and a true gentleman. The SAS retiree lunches will not be the same without your wit and stories.

I was heartbroken when we received the sudden and tragic news of Doug's passing. He was the best partner, and a better friend, that a copper could hope for and he and I were for several years in the Analyst Office at 31 Div.  Judy and I share in the sadness of the emptiness that his absence brings and we send our deepest condolences to Patty, Laura, Gordon and Cameron and their families.

I am so sadden by Doug's death. We were both Cadets together in 12 Division. I remember walking the beat together. He had a great smile and a wonderful disposition. A pleasure to be with.

Doug was a valuable member of the team who had patience and dignity and made everyone around him better. I have fond memories of Doug going above and beyond. I’m very glad to have worked with him. 

I had the privilege of working in the same unit as Doug for a year.  I never heard a complaint from him.  He was always the consummate gentleman.  His cheerful disposition never faltered even when he was deluged with work.  No matter how busy he was, he never turned down a request for help.  My condolences to Doug's relatives and friends.

So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing.  Our thoughts and prayers to all the family

Oh this is so very sad. I thought the world of Doug. He was a gentle man, and was always in good humour.  He was a tremendous help to me and to everyone. he worked with at Toronto Police. One of the best at understanding what the Service needed for analysis.  He taught me so much and with great patience.
I remember him talking about his family, so proudly, about vacations and holidays together.  I am so sorry for your loss.  
A good man gone....

Not only have I lost my best friend, I have also lost my band mate and so much more. I'll miss our weekly jams and hearing about family, which he was so, so proud of. Doug was such a good person it not likely he'll ever be forgotten. I hope he's talking with Cam, his dad and taking Copper for walks. You will be missed my friend.
